With reference to Mr. Read's letter No.25199,
dated the 22nd July last, regarding the arrangement for
the supply of opium to Macao, I an directed by the
Secretary of State for India in Council to state for
the information of the Secretary of State for the
Colonies, that a copy of the correspondence has been
sent to the Government of India, and that they have
been instructed to take the necessary action to give
effect to the arrangements that have been agreed upon.
The Government of India have been informed that they
may settle in direct communication with HongKong any
further questions of detail that may arise. It is
assumed that Mr. Harcourt will have no objection to
this procedure.
A copy of the correspondence is being forwarded
to the Foreign Office.
